Bedding Basics

Families on a budget know that bedding costs can add up so it makes sense to target bedding that offers good value for money and invest in the best possible selections that will withstand repeated use and still look stylish over time.

Crafting a bedding plan is a good idea, so you can then execute against the plan to both stay on track and within budget. For each bed there are essentials or basics and then there are the things which are nice to have but you can live without.

Basics include a mattress pad, a bed skirt, a sheet set and a quilt, comforter or duvet cover.

A mattress pad is necessary as it serves to protect your mattress and also extends sheet life as the sheet is not sitting directly atop the rough mattress surface.

When buying woven sheets look for a thread count of 300 or more to ensure durability after many washings; jersey knit sheets are an attractive option as well. Sheets in neutral colors are a good idea as they coordinate with almost anything and can be rotated on to other beds to change the look of a room.

Solid duvet covers, quilts and comforters in classic colors make sense as they will stand the test of time; a reversible quilt or comforter with a print or pattern on one side is a great way to get two looks for the price of one and extend the useful life of the article.

Pillows and throws fall under the category of nice to have but not essential; with colorful pillows and throws you can quickly update the look of a room without changing the basics.

The Room you call your Own

If there is one private corner of your house, where you are all by yourself, it is probably your bedroom. Here you can spend some much needed solitary moments. You can decorate your bedroom in accordance to your preference of color shades and also add accessories to make it appear more impressive. You can even experiment with the color scheme of your bedroom, by painting the largest wall in a bright shade and contrasting it with more subdued shades on the other walls.

You can add to its look by using beautiful paintings, photo frames, lamp shades, wall hangings and mirrors. It is important to keep an eye on every little detail right from the color of the doors and the windows to that of the curtains, blinds and rugs. These accessories will add to the beauty of your room and create a wonderful ambience for your room.
